It is up to you

It is up to you

One song can spark a moment,
One flower can make a dream.
One tree can start a forest,
One bird can herald spring.
One smile begins a friendship,
One handclasp lifts a soul.
One star can guide a ship at sea.
One word can frame the goal.
One vote can change a nation,
One sunbeam lights a room.
One candle wipes out darkness
One laugh will conquer gloom.
One step must start each journey,
One word must start a prayer,
One hope will raise our spirits,
One touch can show you care.
One voice can speak with wisdom,
One heart can know what's true,
One life can make the difference,
You see, it's up to you.

Problem Solving and Decision Making

"When you finally decide to decide and act on a problem, you will be amazed how many problems your decision will solve."

Do you have problems? Of course, who really does not? We all know that everyone has problems. But do our problems keep recurring? Do you have problems at present that you barely overcame last year and the year before that? I bet for someone like you, there are problems that have a way of popping up yearly. That is why your New Years resolution are almost the same year after year, and the list seems to get longer every year! These resoluttions seem to be ineffective. In fact you might have just remembered some of them  only because the word resolutions is mentioned here. That means they may have been forgotten for a whole year! Now that you are old enough, you have again new problems on top of recurring ones - no wonder your resolution list gets longer.

Do you want to prevent some of your problems from rearing their ugly heads again? If so, read on.

Your Eye Opener

A decision is the bridge between analysis and action in a problem situation. It serves as a launching pad for action. To arrive at an "intelligent" decision a person goes through a process. There are several decision-making processes in solving a problem.

Bear this in mind when you encounter a problem situation

1. Be conscious that there is a problem. Without it what is there to analyze and  decide on? If there is really a problem, denying it or refusing to see it is a problem in itself.

2. If you identify the problem specifically and clearly, you have already solve half of it. A wrong diagnosis brings about a wrong prescription.

3. It is effective to trace the problem to its root cause or causes. If you just solve the symptoms, the problem will remain unsolved.

4. Devise a solution that is specific and clear enough to be implemented; otherwise, the solution itself can breed other problems because of misinterpretation.

A decision is your choice of a solution to a problem from among some options. Will a particular solution solve the problem, its root cause and not just its symptoms. Will the solution help in the achievement of the objective. I you answer to these question is yes, then your situation will solve the problem.

Remember

The eye of the storm is the most calm place in the middle of the swirling winds. Problems will always surround and hound us. Problems are one of the inevitable in life. You are in the same boat as other human beings. In fact, other people may have greater problems than you are.

It is said that many of the problems ailing human beings are just the products of wrong decisions made in the past. It would be much easier to come up with intelligen and therefore, right decisions if a person has the right standards to set his/her life's priorities aright and acts according to them immediately.

The higher these standards are, the better for the individual. These higher values make up the ideal person. Work these values and come closer to the "I" that you aim for. This is much easier to do than search for an ideal person or situation now because there is nothing more ideal than the originator of values, the Creator, the best factor your "I" way.

The Dash

"As you change your thoughts about people, people change towards you." - John Kehoe

Below is a reaction to a eulogy. This may sound morbid but we know that all of us will reach this stage - death. Anyway, red the poem and think about it.

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning ... to the end.
He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the "dash" between those years (1940-2011)

For the "dash" represents all the time
That she spent alive on Earth
And only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth
For it matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our "dash."

So think about this long and hard
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is lfet
Than can still be rearranged
If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real
And always try to understand
The way other people feel,

And be less quick to anger,
And show our appreciation more
And love the people in our lives,
If we treat each other with respect
And more often wear a smile,
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while

So, when your eulogy's being read
With your life's action to rehash,
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spend your "dash".

Think about it
Life is not about being black or white, rich or poor, ugly or beautiful. All of us can be happy if we can see how valuable we are and be fair towards ourselves.

You are Eye catching

"The Life you lead is the legacy you leave"

Today I'll try to introduce you to the world of modelling. Explore your possibilities of becoming a role model and influencing other. Did you ever once wish you were a model? that you could also catch people's attention? that people would also observe you in public?

Well, our models are people like us. They also wear ordinary clothes during ordinary days. They do not own the clothes they model, for they are usually the property of the fashion designers. The models only wear them during photo sessions and fashion shows; otherwise, they usually wear jeans and T-shirts. Even in ordinary clothes however, they still get noticed. What does the public notice in them?

Models admit in interviews and write-ups that, generally, they have a positive outlook in life or positive attitudes toward many areas in life. They also experience problems once in a while, but they do not let those concerns overwhelm them to inaction. They look at the bright side instead so as to overcome these problems. These positive attitudes are the ones seen and felt by the public.

The public also notices and feels in the models self-confidence, self-acceptance, self-control, calmness, control over things, credibility. Models also project hope. Do you notice that what models project to which the attention of the public is drawn are values? So, basically, models are models because they manifest certain values and attitudes  in how they look and behave.

Model though have not gotten to look and behave the way they do overnight. It has taken long practice. Many of them admit of feeling uneasy when they started out. The important thing is to practice positive attitudes and values. You also have positive attitudes and you do practice values, don't you?

Real life is just like modelling. We are always caught by other people on "still or video-audio camera" and filled in their memories. The difference is that, in real life, we are not usually conscious of what we all say and do and of their consequences. Try to look at your pictures in facebook. You are at your best when you are aware of the picture taking. To be sure, you have prepared yourself before your image is taken. But probably you also have stolen shots that are unfavorable to you. These unguarded moments are what the public often sees, not the ones when you posed.

Fortunately or unfortunately, you do not know what impression of your image are filled in people's memories. As a model of human behavior, you are highly regarded by some people. Only, you do not know what they will imitate in you.

Eye Opener

We have,  at one time of another, already imitated others. They are usually belong to the circles in which we move about. That is how trends start. Sometimes what we have imitated do no look good on us. Wrong things never look good on anyone. But the trendsetter (even professional models) does not know that he/she is imitated. That person has become unwittingly a "leader of wrong example". A behavior that gives the wrong pattern for imitation is called a scandal and can set in other persons a behavioral trend called vice. These persons have become victims through their mindless imitation. If they only knew these wrong behaviors do no look good on them....

You might now know it but you, too, might have already been imitated. How would you feel if you were hailed as an image model of something wrong?

On the other hand, how would you feel if you were a model of something positive? You may have already felt it during you "modelling" stint in life and like you, your audience was happy. Who would not be? What you have model was a value. The practice you will set to fashion is a virtue. Your followers will clothe themselves in virtue. You, as the virtue trendsetter, are a leader of change, a leader of good example.

However,  not all fashions catches on. Some people will not believe what they see. Why? Because they have not yet seen it constantly practiced. It takes habit for a trend to be noticed. A value sticks to one's image if it has already become a virtue; then,  it makes a lasting impression. Some who believe you may still not follow you. This reality comes with modelling. But once they decide to follow suit, you will have already provided them a role model and the will consider you a blessing.
